A quick update on the status of the Hingham Centre Playground project. It’s some time since I sent you the first email update and I suspect some of you are wondering what’s going on. At the suggestion of a neighbor, Hingham landscape architect Sean Papich has agreed to take a look at the proposed plan and offer suggestions. He’s taken the project on on a pro-bono basis for which we thank him. He has visited the site with Michael Monteiro and me, offered some thoughts and has promised a draft of a plan, which we should have soon. While we discussed siting issues, there is no change to the plan for the replacement of the three pieces of equipment. As I mentioned in the last email, I suggest a 3-place swing set (to include a bucket swing for our smallest users). I’m also interested in seeing alternatives to the climbing structure. The existing jungle gym is 6’x6’ and takes up little space. The proposed climbing structure is long and, according to the plan submission, requires about 30’ lengthwise to accommodate it.
If you’ve been by the site, you’ve seen the stakes that are in place. The Town’s engineer placed them as markers for the planned excavation should we accept the original plan’s layout. Again, I’m sorry this is taking so long, but I’m sure you’ll agree that doing it right trumps doing it fast. The Town stands ready to proceed as soon as a final plan has been agreed upon. Stay tuned. At last count we’ve raised nearly $14,000 FYI, I’m sending this openly to all who are on the distribution list. No one took me up on my offer to opt out, but let me know if you’ve changed your mind. Also, if you notice that names you think should be included but aren’t, please let me know and I’ll add them to the list. Cheers, Mark Cullings
