Here’s a quick note to all of you interested in the progress toward reopening the Hingham Centre Playground. Hingham resident and landscape architect Sean Papich has graciously donated an alternative plan to the one proposed by the Town. I’m attaching it for your review and comments. Sean’s plan more closely replicates the layout of the original equipment, moving it farther from School St. and keeping it nestled among the trees next to the cemetery fence. Here are some comments Sean included with his plan:
I am aware that there is a desire among some in the women’s softball league, which makes frequent use of the ball field for its summer season, that attention be paid to minimizing the playground’s impact on balls hit to left field. We’ve invited a representative of the league to join us in this planning phase. Where do things stand? No decisions have been made and won’t be until people have had a chance to weigh in. I’ll be away for a week, but Michael Monteiro has offered to coordinate an on-site meeting with Selectman Karen Johnson, Sean and perhaps a representative from the softball league. He is also going to research play structure options. Incidentally, we’ve raised nearly $14,000 for the project. Cheers, Mark Cullings
