We are pleased to report that the Planning Board has approved the site plan for the new Hingham Centre Playground, and the Board of Selectmen has agreed to accept a gift of funds from the community to reconstruct the playground in accordance with the site plan. In short, the Town has approved the design, and has agreed to reconstruct the playground once they receive sufficient funds from the community to do so. This is an important milestone worth celebrating, and one that took many months to reach. But we're not done yet as we still have a significant amount of money to raise in order to make this project a reality. We have not yet obtained competitive bids, but suffice it to say that playgrounds—even modest ones like Hingham Centre Playground—are not inexpensive.
We will provide another update once the competitive bids are in. In the meantime, you can catch all of the action from the June 5th Hingham Board of Selectmen meeting here.

After long and careful thought about your design, I would like to express my concern for the scale and size of the Dynamo climber. As a member of the Hingham Historic Commission and the Hingham Centre Cemetery Board, I am sensitive to historic landscapes around town, and feel that the climber is grossly inappropriate for a historically sensitive area. 12' is too high. I am also concerned about the safety of the littler kids being 12' up. It is a small playground and it will be hard to keep the little kids off the climber, they will naturally gravitate to all three pieces of equipment. I am incredibly grateful for your work, however, feel the climber should be swapped out for the Burke climber which is much safer and aesthetically more appropriate. Everyone I have spoken to would like the new playground to resemble the old playground as closely as possible.

As someone who raised my 3 kids on the old playground, I feel strongly that the new playground should maintain the feel the of the old play area....that is to say, it should be simple (with old fashioned type equipment) and non-intrusive. This town offers bigger playground options nearby and this pretty little corner can not sustain a large play space that attracts traffic. It would be a danger to little people trying to cross streets if there were cars parked all around. I agree it needs to be updated and safe but please keep it simple! Thanks so much for your efforts!!
