On Saturday, July 13th, about fifteen neighbors gathered at Mark Cullings' house at 44 Spring Street to get an update from fellow committee members, Michael Monteiro and Katie Zandbergen. After introductions, Michael delivered a presentation which included an overview of the project, and its key milestones, a review of the latest plan, and previous versions, an update on fundraising, and a discussion of next steps. During the meeting, a number of questions were answered, and concerns discussed (mostly outlined in this letter by Mark Cullings). Some in attedance were supportive of replacing the old equipment, some said they wanted to keep things the way they are, and some said they would rather see the play area go away than have something new. Though we would have liked to see more people with school aged children in attendance, we know that summer is a busy time of year, and that many families were unable to attend. Nonetheless, we were happy to have the discussion, and thank everyone for taking the time to share their thoughts.
As we discussed in the meeting, the next steps are as follows:
In the meantime, stay informed and spread the word. With your help and the support of the community, we will make this neighborhood gem a safe and accessible play area for children for years to come. With gratitude, Michael Monteiro and Katie Zandbergen
